Guest Artist Spotlight
Scotlyn Skelton - Emerging Artist
Scotlyn is a 12-year-old artist from the Gulf Coast of Texas who has always had a flair for creativity. With an eye for color and detail and a love for beautiful aesthetics, her artwork has already won awards and been featured in school art fairs — and she’s just getting started!
Her first oil painting, “Rocky Mountain Falls,” was inspired by time spent exploring the woods and waterfalls of the mountains. “I wanted people to imagine standing right there at the waterfall,” she says, “and feeling the mist on their face.”
Scotlyn is an accomplished athlete as well as an artist. She is currently a middle school cheerleader. Scotlyn previously competed in gymnastics up to level 6. She also participated in competitive soccer and recreational basketball. In 7th grade, she plans to try out for several athletic teams.
Scotlyn’s favorite color is navy blue. She enjoys crafts such as making bracelets and slime with her friends. She loves painting nature scenes and experimenting with mixed media techniques. She describes art as “not boring — it’s calming and energizing at the same time.” Her next dream? To paint a scene that features a barn or a house — combining nature and architecture in new ways.
To those who collect her work, she offers this message:
“I hope I inspire you to spend time in nature and use your senses to experience the world.”
